Upon arrival, you will be met by AFS staff and/or volunteers outside of Customs, who will guide you to your next location. These next steps vary by country, but in general you will either participate in an Arrival Orientation in your international arrival city or you will travel directly to your host community. You may have a local orientation immediately upon arrival in your host community or it may be held a few weeks later.
AFS will arrange your domestic travel to your host community. Depending on where your host family lives, they may pick you up at the airport or you may take a bus, train, or flight. You can find more information about your arrival in your host country on the Country Resources page, linked below.
You will most likely be very busy when you first arrive but remember that your family in the U.S. will want to know that you arrived safely. Contact your US family as soon as possible and reassure them that “No news is good news!” AFS will contact your parents if there is a problem.
