AFS-USA is thrilled to include language proficiency testing as a component of our eligible Year and Semester study abroad programs. This is a wonderful opportunity that allows our participants to see their language growth from the beginning of the program to the end through pre-program and post-program testing.
Even if you have taken other language tests, we still encourage you to participate in the AAPPL (ACTFL Assessment of Performance toward Proficiency in Language) test that we offer to take advantage of the following benefits:
1. If you request your pre-program results from AFS-USA, you can track your progress by reviewing your those scores and recommendations so you know what skills to work on during your program abroad and you'll be even more prepared for your post-program assessment.
2. The AAPPL test is widely recognized, and taking the test could earn you acaddemic credit for language learning even if the language is not offered at your high school. The assessment results can be shared on your resume and with potential employers and college recruiters.
3. You could qualify for the Seal of Biliteracy, which is an award that recognizes students who can demonstrate intermediate and advanced levels of language proficiency in English and another langauge by high school graduation.
This is a wonderful opportunity to maximize the language ability that is sure to be honed during our immersive exchange experiences. Take advantage of it!
