AFS Student Learning Journey
The AFS Student Learning Journey, is a blended learning course that allows you to begin the international aspect of your experience before you go abroad. This approach maximizes the learning outcomes from your AFS experience and may help you to anticipate and overcome some of the cultural adjustment issues you may encounter during your time abroad.
The Student Learning Journey strengthens the study abroad experience, supporting participants' journey to learn global skills, practice social impact, and return home to become active global citizens with the essential global skills they need to live, learn, work and volunteer to contribute to society and change the world.
As part of the learning journey, every student has the opportunity to develop the “AFS Superpowers” that they need to make the world a better place through active global citizenship: adaptability, critical thinking, self- awareness, empathy, communication, valuing differences, open-mindedness, global awareness, and change-making.
For information on the other educational and preparatory steps provided to you as you get ready to go abroad please review this article about the Pre-Departure Webinar Series. In addition this article provides an outline of the AFS-USA Framework for Active Global Citizens.
